“When viewing the transition phenomenon through an ethical lens, there are near-countless principles that come to mind. Notions of intergenerational justice are common: how does an energy transition technology impact future generations? Environmental justice is also of importance. How are the interests of non-human species affected by human choices for power creation and how are qualities like biodiversity or ecological sustainability altered? Beneficence and non-maleficence, the providing of benefits or obstruction of harm, are also relevant. How is a particular technology beneficial and who reaps the utility? Conversely, what kind of harm does a technology prevent and how much is at stake?”
